Mystery Painting
Hello! Sam Ayres recently bulged the between channels postbag with an intriguing request. He bought this picture at a carboot sale recently and would like to draw on the collected knowledge of the bc readership to discover where it is set. Ordinarily I would have callously disregarded the request and flicked a printed version into the fire, were it not for the fact that Sam identified the type of phone box in the picture as a K8, thus initiating himself into this website's inner circle. O enter ye!
Anyway, all ideas are welcome, as is the thought of me getting off my backside and posting some of the pictures and illustrations that have come my way in recent weeks. It may happen. And I've thought about doing another site as well, for different things. Hmm. Anyway, drop us a line in the comments section if you can help out. Thanks!
Coventry. Oh yes, that's Coventry alright.
ReplyDeleteI thought Coventry, too, or Plymouth. Probably Coventry then.
ReplyDeleteNo clue where it is but that guy on the right in the black jacket and sunglasses has just pulled!
ReplyDeleteStephen
Thanks folks! Sam - Coventry it is!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'd deffo say Coventry.
ReplyDeleteIncidentally, if you have a chance to visit Avoncroft museum near Bromsgrove ( http://www.avoncroft.org.uk/ ) they have a great selection of old GPO, BT and AA/RAC phone boxes that are all interconnected and work, along with the old style Doctor Who police box, as well as a great selection of saved and restored builings for your perusal, makes a pleasant afternoon out.
Sorry chaps, its Stevenage. I know because I live five minutes walk away from this spot.
ReplyDeleteThe blue building used to be the post office. It has since been demolished and been replaced by a Weatherspoons pub etc.
The building on the right is a bank on the ground floor and council offices above.
The building between them is a bit unclear. I can't make up my mind if it is supposed to represent the former bus station, now demolished, or Matalan which now occupies the site.
I can not remember if the building on the extreme left is currently occupied; it used to be a bank.
The fenced area on the right is where buses terminate, turn around and also park between shifts.
The artist is probably standing upon the 'Joyride' platform.
Oh, and I think that's me in the centre wearing the black shirt!
